Millions of people on Spotify have access to over 60 million tracks and great custom playlists. But 70% of Spotifiers would still rather trust their friends' suggestions over Spotify’s, and a lot of these suggestions are sneakily taken from the friend’s activity feed on Spotify desktop.

We interviewed loyal Spotify listeners to better understand how Spotify helps them discover and share music.
We grouped pain points to tackle and user delights to emphasize. With that, we discovered that Spotifiers use music to boost productivity while enjoying their favorite activities, and a lot of their friends share interests in the same activities.
We brainstormed a series of How Might We questions to help us frame a solution. This pushed us to redefine how Spotifiers share music with their friends.

View friend’s activity to see what they’re currently listening to in their zone. Add your zone by clicking on the top right plus icon.
Tap a friend’s zone to visit their profile and press make suggestion to send a song or playlist of encouragement.
Remove zone from the live activity feed, play or queue recently suggested songs from friends or browse songs and playlists from friends in the same zone.
